Term premiums are available by rider in many states. Like term life insurance, term disability premiums are initially less expensive than level premiums, and increase over time.

To apply for disability income insurance, you must complete an application, which does not guarantee that MetLife will issue a policy to you. If a policy is issued, policy provisions, including benefit amounts and premium rates, may vary from those shown here.

Benefits will not be paid for a disability 1) due to act of war, whether declared or undeclared; 2) due to pregnancy or childbirth (but MetLife will cover complications of pregnancy as defined in the policy); 3) due to any loss MetLife has excluded by name or specific description; 4) due to your committing, or attempting to commit a felony; 5) existing while you are legally incarcerated or detained; or 6) caused by an intentionally self-inflicted injury.

In addition, Omni Essential has a lifetime benefit limit of 24 months for disabilities resulting from mental and/or substance use disorders. However, any time during which you are confined in a hospital does not count towards this 24-month limit.

MetLife's individual disability policies do not pay benefits for a disability starting during the first two years of the policy if due to a preexisting condition. A preexisting condition is a sickness or injury for which, in the 5 years prior to the effective date of the policy, 1) medical advice or treatment or care was contemplated, or was recommended or received from a physician; or 2) symptoms existed that would cause an ordinarily prudent person to seek diagnosis, care or treatment. The exclusion does not apply to any condition that was disclosed and not misrepresented in the application for the policy and was not excluded by name or specific description. (Subject to state variations).

1 Assumes an occupation class of 3A (for example a bookkeeper, insurance adjuster or general salesperson), a 90 day elimination period (the number of days of disability which must elapse before benefits begin to accrue), a maximum benefit period to age 65 and residual disability rider.

2 MetLife cannot change the premiums or coverage until the first premium due date on or after your 65th or 67th birthday (depending on the state).

3 MetLife may change premium rates on a class basis.

1 Consider the effect a disabling illness or injury could have on your expenses. Certain expenses may decrease as a result of disability and other expenses may increase or be created.

2 Please note that this calculator does not take into account other income that you may receive while disabled. This additional income may impact the Estimated Income Shortage calculated above. We recommend you consult with your financial advisor or MetLife Representative for a complete analysis of your income protection needs.

Like most disability income insurance policies, MetLife's policies contain certain exclusions, waiting periods, reductions, limitations and terms for keeping them in force. Ask your sales representative about costs and complete details.

FOR POLICIES ISSUED IN NEW YORK: These policies provide disability income insurance only. They DO NOT provide basic hospital, basic medical or major medical insurance as defined by the New York State Insurance Department. The expected benefit ratio for these policies is at least 50%. This ratio is the portion of future premiums that MetLife expects to return as benefits when averaged over all people with the applicable policy.
